Once upon a time, I was a touring rock musician with my band Marrow. With the benefit of my Clark Kent existence as a brand & marketing professional, I understood that we would need to do something different, as we had entered the era where most people were buying their music online - so if we wanted to sell physical product, CDs wouldn't be enough. The in-hand experience would need to seduce the buyer.
For our Sunshine Enema EP, I wanted to present Marrow's music in a way that was unique and whimsical to lay a bright, glossy, and sardonic coating over the dark musical themes. From the USB pill to t-shirts to the website, I took my visual cues from big pharma and riffed on a standard issue prescription dosing pamphlet to really hammer the concept home.
This project has been featured on design blogs Lovely Package, the Dieline, Packaging of the World, among others, and is still used by Martin Atkins as part of his Business of Music courses at Millikin University, as well as on the road in his "Tour Smart" series.
This is also the first website where I challenged myself to not only design the UI/UX, but to do all development as well, including integrating Magento for the e-commerce platform.
